2025-2026 Scholarships – Mesabi Range Foundation and Alumni Scholarships
The availability of these scholarships and the amount of the awards are subject to change.
An application is required for award consideration unless otherwise noted.
Alumni – Entering Freshmen Scholarship
- $1,000 award
- Award is given to a high school senior who enrolls as a full-time freshman at Minnesota North College – Virginia or Eveleth Campus. (9 credits of the full-time credits must be registered at a Mesabi Campus).
- The students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Alumni – F.B. Moe Memorial Scholarship
- $1,000 award
- Award is given to an outstanding freshman who enrolls as a full-time sophomore at Minnesota North College – Virginia or Eveleth Campus (9 credits of the full-time credits must be registered at a Mesabi Campus).
- The students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA.
- Provided in memory of Floyd B. Moe, who was a long-time educator and school administrator in Virginia. This award is based on scholastic ability
Alumni – Margaret Marvin Memorial Scholarship
- $4,000 award
- Award is given to a full-time student who enrolls at Minnesota North College – Virginia or Eveleth Campus. (9 credits of the full-time credits must be registered at a Mesabi Campus).
- The recipient must demonstrate good character, leadership skills, community involvement and preferably express an interest in teaching. Incoming freshmen, sophomores, and non-traditional students are eligible.
- This scholarship is funded through an endowment in memory of Margaret Marvin who, for more than 30 years, was a member and supporter of the Mesabi Alumni Association.
Alumni – Pat and Babs Dimberio Memorial Scholarship
- $2,000 award
- This scholarship will be awarded to a full-time traditional student (9 credits must be enrolled at Minnesota North College – Virginia or Eveleth Campus), who has completed a minimum of 15 college credits.
- The students must have an overall 3.5 GPA and be enrolled in accredited Minnesota North College courses
- This scholarship is given in memory of community and educational supporters Pat and Babs Dimberio.
Alumni – Trade/Craft Scholarship
- $2,000 award
- Award is given to a full-time student (9 credits of the 12 full-time credits must be registered at Minnesota North College – Eveleth campus) who are enrolled in a technical program.
- Awards are based on skills and a recommendation from a high school or college instructor or from the workplace.
- This scholarship is given in memory of Ray Bennick, a Mesabi Community College Continuing Education Director and Engineering Technical Instructor.
Alumni – VJC Judie Kauchick Memorial Scholarship
- $3,000 award
- Award is given to an outstanding student who enrolls as a full-time student at Minnesota North College – Virginia or Eveleth Campus (9 credits of the full-time credits must be registered at a Mesabi Campus).
- Incoming freshmen, sophomores, and non-traditional students are eligible.
- The students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
- This award is primarily directed to a student with a STEM or Business-related curriculum and is based on community involvement and scholastic ability.
- This scholarship was founded by Virginia Junior College graduates in recognition of the pivotal role the College and its faculty played in assisting those students on their journey.
Alumni – William Monat Memorial Scholarship
- $1,000 award
- Award is given to a full-time student (9 credits must be registered at Minnesota North College – Virginia Campus).
- Incoming freshmen, sophomores and non-traditional students are eligible
- The students must have a minimum 3.2 GPA.
- Preference given to an Education (teaching) major.
- This award is based on financial need, and scholastic ability.
- Provided in memory of William Monat, a long-time educator, coach, and administrator in Virginia.
American Association of University Women Scholarship
- $1,000 award
- Award is given to a non-traditional, full-time female student (at least 12 credits) pursuing the field of their choice.
- The students must be a returning student and maintain a 3.3 GPA or higher.
Andrew Lang Memorial Scholarship
- $1,000 award
- Award is given to a student who is enrolled in the Accounting, Business, and/or Economics field of study.
- The recipient must maintain a 3.0 GPA, be an Iron Range resident and a full-time student (at least 12 credits) at Minnesota North College – Virginia or Eveleth Campus.
Archie Hill Memorial Scholarship
- $1,500 award
- Award is given to a full-time student (at least 12 credits) at Minnesota North College – Virginia or Eveleth Campus, and is based on scholastic achievement (3.0 GPA or higher), demonstration of skill & aptitude, record of good citizenship, school/community involvement and whose educational opportunities will be enhanced as a result of receiving this scholarship.
- The award will be disbursed over two semesters – $750 in the fall semester, and $750 in the spring semester.
Artisan Scholarship
- $300 award
- Award is given to a full-time student (at least 12 credits) enrolled in the Welding program on the Eveleth Campus.
- The recipient must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.
Barb Garni Memorial Scholarship
- $1,500 award
- Award is given to a full-time student (at least 12 credits) at Minnesota North College – Virginia or Eveleth Campus.
- The recipient must maintain a 3.0 GPA.
- Preference is given to individuals who show strong community involvement.
- Applicant must submit two recommendation letters to be eligible for this scholarship.
- The award will be disbursed over two semesters – $750 in the fall semester, and $750 in the spring semester.
Bill and Joan Wirtanen Memorial Scholarship
- $500 award
- Award is given annually to incoming freshman students demonstrating leadership ability.
- These students must have a 3.0 minimum high school GPA and be a full-time student (at least 12 credits) enrolled at the Minnesota North College – Virginia or Eveleth Campus.
- Preference is given to those students who major in Engineering, Health, Physical Education, or Education.
Carl G. Carlson Memorial Scholarship
- $2,500 award
- Award is given to full-time students (at least 12 credits) at MRC who are pursuing a technical degree.
- This scholarship is awarded to a student in need of a second chance, thus there is no minimum GPA required to qualify.
- The award will be disbursed over two semesters – $1,250 in the fall semester, and $1,250 in the spring semester.
Cleveland Cliffs Scholarship
- $2,000 award
- Award is given to deserving full-time students (at least 12 credits) majoring in Engineering or the IMT program.
- Consideration will be given to a returning student; however, first year students are also encouraged to apply.
- The recipient must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.
Dan and Yvonne Webb Engineering Scholarship
- Awards range from $3,000 – $6,000 per student for the first semester – “Bell Academy”
- Awards are given to students that are majoring in Engineering in their Junior or Senior year in the Minnesota State University – Mankato – Iron Range Engineering program.
- Preference is given to women from Northeastern Minnesota
Dave Stillman Memorial Scholarship
- $500 award
- Award is given to a deserving high school graduate of the Arrowhead Region of Northeastern Minnesota.
- The recipient must be a full-time student (at least 12 credits) enrolled at Minnesota North College – Virginia or Eveleth Campus, and maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA while pursuing the field of their choice.
- This scholarship is awarded each year in memory of Dave Stillman, whose motto was “Livin’ the Dream”. The recipient must have commitment to living his or her dream.
Barbara Avern Scholarship
- $1,000 award
- Award is given to a non-traditional, full-time female student (at least 12 credits) pursuing the field of their choice.
- Student must plan on attending a four-year college after graduating from MN North-Mesabi Range
- Recipient will be chosen on the basis of scholastic achievement (3.4 GPA), demonstration of skill & aptitude, record of good citizenship, school/community involvement and whose educational opportunities will be enhanced as a result of receiving this scholarship.
- The students must be a returning student and maintain a 3.4 GPA or higher.
Ed and Cora Remus Engineering Scholarship
- $5,000 award
- Award is given to a full time student (at least 12 credits) majoring in Engineering.
- Recipient must be in the 2nd year of the Engineering program.
- Recipient must be in the top half of their class as determined by the Academic Advisors.
- Recipient must be intending and progressing to a Bachelor’s Degree.
Eino Kopponen Memorial Scholarship
- $500 award
- Award is given to a full time student (at least 12 credits) majoring in the legal field, preferably an attorney.
- Recipient will be chosen on the basis of scholastic achievement (3.0 GPA), demonstration of skill & aptitude, record of good citizenship, school/community involvement and whose educational opportunities will be enhanced as a result of receiving this scholarship.
- In the absence of deserving applicants in the legal field, students meeting the rest of the criteria will also be considered.
Emberg Charitable Trust Scholarship
- 20 scholarships in the amount of $2,500 will be awarded
- Award is given to a full-time student (at least 12 credits) and be enrolled in the Welding, Electrical Controls Maintenance or Industrial Technology programs on the Eveleth Campus.
Emily & Joseph Kraker Memorial Scholarship
- $1,000 award
- Award is given to a full-time student (at least 12 credits) based on scholastic achievement (3.0 GPA), demonstration of skill & aptitude, record of good citizenship, school/community involvement and whose educational opportunities will be enhanced as a result of receiving this scholarship.
Eveleth Elks/Cruise Eveleth Scholarship
- $1,500 award
- Award is given to a full time student (at least 12 credits) pursuing a technical degree.
- The recipient must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.
- Recipients must have a record of community involvement and exhibit financial need.
Fine Arts Scholarship
- $300 award
- Award is given to a full-time student (at least 12 credits) student majoring/minoring in the Arts Transfer program on the Virginia Campus.
- The recipient must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.
Gene F. Kishel M.D. and Brynhild Kishel Engineering Scholarship
- $750 award
- Award is given to full time (at least 12 credits) Mesabi Range College graduate students who are entering their Junior or Senior year in the Minnesota State University – Mankato’s Iron Range Engineering program.
- Preference will be given to Mechanical Engineering students; however, all students are encouraged to apply, regardless of the engineering field they are pursuing.
- The recipient must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.
- This award will be given to the applicant who exhibits promise in their chosen field based on recommendations submitted.
- The recipient must be a graduate of one of the following high schools: Eveleth-Gilbert, Ely, Mesabi East, Mt. Iron – Buhl, St. Louis County Schools, or Virginia.
Iron Range Engineering Scholarship
- $1,000 award
- Award is given to full time (at least 12 credits) qualifying students in the Pre-Engineering program at Minnesota North College – Mesabi Range Virginia or in the Iron Range Engineering program through Minnesota State University, Mankato.
- The scholarship may be given out in the Fall or Spring semester – dependent on student status.
Iron Range Rotary – John Damberg Community Service Scholarship
- $750 award – one to a male student, one to a female student
- Award is given to full time returning (2nd year) students (at least 12 credits) while attending Minnesota North College – Eveleth Campus.
- The recipient must have a 2.5 GPA or higher
- Strong participation in volunteer service within church and/or community is a focus for this award.
Jerome “Jerry” Welch Memorial Scholarship
- $500 award
- Award is given to a full-time student (at least 12 credits) with a minimum 2.5 GPA.
- Recipient will be a student in the Industrial Mechanical Technology (Millwright) program.
Joanne Lindgren Memorial Scholarship
- $1,000 award
- Award is given to a full time student (at least 12 credits) on the basis of scholastic achievement (3.0 GPA), demonstration of skill & aptitude, record of good citizenship, school/community involvement and whose educational opportunities will be enhanced as a result of receiving this scholarship.
- Recipient will be a student majoring in the field of Medicine or pursuing a Nursing degree on either campus.
- This scholarship is given in memory of Mrs. Joanne Lindgren who dedicated her life to nursing and helping others.
Joe Kraker Jr. Memorial Engineering Scholarship
- $750 award
- Award is given to a full time (at least 12 credits) first or second year student attending Mesabi Range and majoring in the Engineering.
- The recipient must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.
Joseph J. Rebovich Memorial Scholarship
- $500 award
- Award is given to a full time student (at least 12 credits) majoring in Law Enforcement.
- Recipient will be chosen on the basis of scholastic achievement (3.0 GPA), demonstration of skill & aptitude, record of good citizenship, school/community involvement and whose educational opportunities will be enhanced as a result of receiving this scholarship.
- In the absence of deserving applicants in the Law Enforcement field, students meeting the rest of the criteria will also be considered..
Josephine A. Elioff – Voiture 634 40/8 Nursing Scholarship
- $500 award
- Recipients must be enrolled in the Nursing Program, returning for their 2nd semester.
- Award is given to a full-time student (at least 12 credits) on the basis of scholastic achievement (2.5 GPA), demonstration of skill & aptitude, record of good citizenship, school/community involvement and whose educational opportunities will be enhanced as a result of receiving this scholarship.
- Requires a recommendation from nursing faculty.
Lake Country Power Les Beach Memorial Scholarship
- $1,000 award
- Award is given to an entering or returning full time student (at least 12 credits) on either campus whose parent/guardian is an active member of the Lake Country Power Electric Cooperative.
- Recipient will be chosen on the basis of scholastic achievement (2.5 GPA), demonstration of skill & aptitude, record of good citizenship, school/community involvement and whose educational opportunities will be enhanced as a result of receiving this scholarship.
LaMarche Creek Foundation Scholarship
- $3,000 award
- Award is given annually based on need and promise to deserving high school graduates of the Iron Range area.
- Recipients must be an incoming freshmen enrolled at Minnesota North College – Virginia or Eveleth Campus as a full time student (at least 12 credits) with minimum 2.5 GPA and pursuing the field of their choice.
- The award will be disbursed over two semesters – $1,500 in the fall semester, and $1,500 in the spring semester.
Louanne Picek Memorial Scholarship
- $500 award
- Award is given to a full time student (at least 12 credits) on the basis of scholastic achievement (3.0 GPA), demonstration of skill & aptitude, record of good citizenship, school/community involvement and whose educational opportunities will be enhanced as a result of receiving this scholarship.
- Recipient must be enrolled in the Executive Office Management Program, or Business if there are no qualified applicants in the Executive Office Management Program.
Marian E. Haij Memorial Scholarship
- $500 award
- Award is given to a full time student (at least 12 credits) on the basis of scholastic achievement (2.5 GPA), demonstration of skill & aptitude, record of good citizenship, school/community involvement and whose educational opportunities will be enhanced as a result of receiving this scholarship.
- Recipient will be a student majoring in the field of Medicine or pursuing a Nursing degree on either campus.
- This scholarship is given in memory of Marian Haij, an alumni of Mesabi Range College.
Marjorie Bangs-Schmitt Scholarship
- $500 award
- Award is given to a full time student (at least 12 credits) majoring in the field of Science.
- Recipient will be chosen on the basis of scholastic achievement (2.5 GPA), demonstration of skill & aptitude, record of good citizenship, school/community involvement and whose educational opportunities will be enhanced as a result of receiving this scholarship.
- Marjorie Bangs Schmitt was a Chemistry instructor at Mesabi from 1970-1989.
Megan Ashley Anderson Memorial Scholarship
- $1,000 award
- Award is given to a full-time entering or returning student (at least 12 credits) enrolled in the Graphic Design & Print Communications program.
- Award is given on the basis of scholastic achievement, demonstration of skill & aptitude, record of good citizenship, school/community involvement and whose educational opportunities will be enhanced as a result of receiving this scholarship.
- The recipient must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.
- This scholarship is given in memory of Megan Anderson, a former student in the Graphic Design & Print Communications program.
Mesabi Range Foundation Scholarship
- $1,000 award
- Award is given to a full-time student (at least 12 credits) who has a cumulative 2.5 GPA.
MRC Faculty/Staff Scholarship
- $1,500 award
- Award is given on the basis of scholastic achievement (3.0 GPA), demonstration of skill & aptitude, record of good citizenship, school/community involvement and whose educational opportunities will be enhanced as a result of receiving this scholarship.
- Recipients should be a full-time incoming freshman student (at least 12 credits) and may be enrolled at either campus.
- The award will be disbursed over two semesters – $750 in the fall semester, and $750 in the spring semester.
Pro-Print Scholarship
- $250 award
- Award is given to a full-time Graphic Design student (at least 12 credits) chosen on the basis of scholastic achievement (3.0 GPA), demonstration of skill & aptitude, record of good citizenship, school/community involvement and whose educational opportunities will be enhanced as a result of receiving this scholarship.
Quad Cities Lions Club Scholarship
- $500 award
- Award is given to a graduate from the Eveleth-Gilbert, Mountain Iron-Buhl, Virginia or Rock Ridge school district and is a full-time student (at least 12 credits) at Minnesota North College – Virginia or Eveleth Campus.
- The recipient must have a record of school/community involvement.
Ray Garni Memorial Scholarship
- $1,500 award
- Award is given to an incoming freshmen who is a full-time student (at least 12 credits) at Minnesota North College – Virginia or Eveleth Campus, and is strongly dedicated to pursuing a degree in a STEM (Science/Technology/Engineering/Math field. A strong commitment to his or her goals is extremely important.
- The recipient must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.
- The award will be disbursed over two semesters – $750 in the fall semester, and $750 in the spring semester.
- This scholarship is given in memory of Ray Garni, a long time educator at Mesabi Range College.
Rod & Jackie Ogrezovich Scholarship
- $2,500 award
- Award is given to a full-time student (at least 12 credits) pursuing a degree at the Minnesota North College – Virginia or Eveleth Campus.
- This student must be an active resident of the Iron Range and in need of financial aid.
- The recipient must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.
- The award will be disbursed over two semesters – $1,000 in the fall semester, and $1,000 in the spring semester.
Roy K. Carlson Honor Scholarship
- $2,500 award
- Award is given to full-time students (at least 12 credits) who plans to make teaching their profession.
- This scholarship will be awarded to a student in need of a second chance, thus there is no minimum GPA required to qualify.
- The award will be disbursed over two semesters – $1,250 in the fall semester, and $1,250 in the spring semester.
Ruth Kanianen and Bob Clark Journalism/Education Scholarship
- $1,000 award
- Award is given to a full-time student (at least 12 credits) majoring in Journalism or Education.
- Recipients will be chosen on the basis of scholastic achievement (3.0 GPA), demonstration of skill & aptitude, record of good citizenship, school/community involvement and whose educational opportunities will be enhanced as a result of receiving this scholarship.
St. Louis County Mineral Royalties Scholarship
- $500 – $2,500 scholarships will be awarded annually
- Open to all students who received a high school diploma, or equivalent, while they were a resident of St. Louis County and have a 2.0 GPA
- Factors to be considered for successful selection of the awardee will be:
- Student must submit an articulated statement of their financial need as a barrier to successful beginning, continuing and/or completing a degree program
- Enrollment in a high demand degree program / career field
- Intent/Plan to successfully complete a program of study
- Intent/Plan to remain a resident or be employed in St. Louis County to help meet the growing workforce needs
- The student must have potential for degree completion
Soroptimist Club – LPN Scholarship
- $1,000 award
- Award is given to a full-time non-traditional student (at least 12 credits) enrolled in the Practical Nursing Program.
- Recipients shall be chosen on the basis of scholastic achievement (3.0 GPA), demonstration of skill & aptitude, record of good citizenship, school/community involvement and whose educational opportunities will be enhanced as result of receiving this scholarship.
Tom Rukavina Engineering Scholarship
- $1,000 award
- Award is given to a full-time Entering Junior student (at least 12 credits) into MSUM’s Iron Range Engineering Program at Minnesota North College – Virginia Campus that is strongly dedicated to his or her field, who is focused, hard-working and determined to succeed.
- A minimum 2.5 GPA is preferred but, not required.
- The recipient must be a graduate of an Iron Range High School.
Tony & Joyce Nigro Education Scholarship
- $1,500 award
- Award is given to outstanding full-time students (at least 12 credits) pursuing a degree in Education at Mesabi Range College.
- The recipient must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.
- The award will be disbursed over two semesters – $750 in the fall semester, and $750 in the spring semester.
Trenti Law Firm Scholarship
- $500 award
- Award is given to a full-time student (at least 12 credits) enrolled in the Business Operations Management Program or an Accounting program.
- Recipient will be chosen on the basis of scholastic achievement (3.0 GPA), demonstration of skill & aptitude, record of good citizenship, school/community involvement and whose educational opportunities will be enhanced as a result of receiving this scholarship.
Twin Cities Iron Ranger Scholarship
- $1,000 award
- Award is given annually to a full-time students (at least 12 credits) based on scholarship and financial need.
- Recipient must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA and be a resident of the Iron Range Area.
Ulseth Family Scholarship
- $1,250 award
- Award is given to a full time (at least 12 credits) first- or second-year student attending Mesabi Range and majoring in the Engineering.
- The recipient must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.
Virginia Elks Lodge #1003 Scholarship
- $1,000 award
- Award is given to a full-time student (at least 12 credits) pursuing a major of their choice.
Virginia Ladies of Kaleva Scholarship
- $500 award
- Award is given to a full-time sophomore student (at least 12 credits) from either campus.
- Recipient will be a person of Finnish descent and be chosen on the basis of: scholastic achievement (3.0 GPA), demonstration of skill & aptitude, record of good citizenship, school/community involvement and whose educational opportunities will be enhanced as a result of receiving this scholarship.
- A brief paragraph will be required concerning your Finnish heritage.
Walfred A. Bodas Memorial Scholarship
- $1,000 award
- Award is given to a full-time student (at least 12 credits) who must be planning to make teaching his/her career.
- A minimum 3.5 GPA is required.
Walker, Giroux, & Hahne Scholarship
- $500 award
- Award is given to a full-time student (at least 12 credits) who is an outstanding Accounting major returning to Minnesota North College – Virginia or Eveleth Campus.
- Recipient will be chosen on the basis of scholastic achievement (3.0 GPA), demonstration of skill & aptitude, record of good citizenship, school/community involvement and whose educational opportunities will be enhanced as a result of receiving this scholarship.
